How to download Twitch clips from your channel

Twitch gives creators a built-in way to download Twitch clips made on their own channel. In the Creator Dashboard, the Clips Manager under Content lists every clip from your streams, whether you made it or a viewer did. From there you can preview, manage and download clips as video files.

This is the official route and the one we recommend. It works on the web version of Twitch, needs no extra software, and keeps you within Twitch's rules. If a clip you want is missing, check that you are signed in to the right account and that clips are enabled on your channel.

Saving full VODs before they disappear

Past broadcasts are not kept forever. According to Twitch Help, they are stored for 7 days on most accounts, 14 days for Affiliates, and 60 days for Partners and Prime or Turbo users. Past broadcast storage also has to be turned on in your settings first.

To keep a full stream, open the Video Producer from the Content section of your Creator Dashboard, find the broadcast and use the download option in its menu. Do it before the storage window ends, because Twitch cannot recover a VOD once it has been deleted.

What about clips from other channels?

Clips belong to the channel they were made on, and the streamer's rights apply even when a clip is public. If you want to use someone else's clip, ask the creator first. Many streamers are happy to have editors repost their best moments, but on their terms, often with credit or a link back.

We don't recommend third-party downloader websites. They are unofficial, can break or disappear without notice, and make it easy to forget whose content you are using. If you have permission, a clip link is usually all you need anyway, as the next section shows.

Edit Twitch clips without downloading them

Most people download a Twitch clip only to upload it into an editor a minute later. With StreamClip you can skip that step: paste the clip link and it loads straight into a 9:16 editor. Sign in with Twitch and your own clips and VODs appear in a list.

From there you pick a layout with facecam over gameplay, trim, add automatic captions with about 90 animated styles, and export in HD from your browser. The Free plan includes all of this with a small watermark; Pro removes it and lets you publish to TikTok and YouTube Shorts.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download Twitch clips on my phone?

The Clips Manager lives in the Creator Dashboard on Twitch's website, so it is easiest from a computer. Or skip the file entirely and paste the clip link into StreamClip.

How long can a Twitch clip be?

Twitch clips are short, up to 60 seconds. For longer moments, download the past broadcast from the Video Producer or create a highlight.

Is it legal to download someone else's Twitch clip?

The clip still belongs to the streamer. Only download or repost clips from other channels when the creator has given you permission.

Why can't I find my old VOD?

Past broadcasts are deleted after the storage period for your account type, and only saved if past broadcast storage was on. Download VODs you want to keep early.

Do I need to download a clip to make a TikTok?

No. In StreamClip you paste the clip link, edit it in vertical 9:16 with captions, and export or publish without handling the original file.

Skip the download, keep the clip

Paste your Twitch clip link and turn it into a vertical video with captions in a few minutes.
